Garage floor epoxy in Palo Alto turns a dusty, stained slab into a sealed floor you can sweep, mop and park on for years. We coat everything from 1920s detached garages near downtown to Eichler garages in Greenmeadow and newer two-car garages in Midtown. Each job starts with diamond grinding and a moisture test, then a flake system and clear topcoat built for daily driving.
Garage floor epoxy is a layered system, and each layer has a job. The floor is ground, repaired, coated, covered in flakes and sealed, usually over one to two days.
You'll need to move cars, shelving and loose items out before the crew arrives. Wall-mounted cabinets and EV chargers can stay where they are.
A garage floor coating is worth looking at when the slab starts causing everyday problems. These are the signs that bring most homeowners to call:
Garage floor coatings peel for three main reasons, and none of them are bad luck. The first is skipped prep: a coating rolled over unground or acid-etched concrete has very little to hold onto.
The second is moisture. Water vapor rising through the slab pushes against the coating from below, which is more common on older slabs without a vapor barrier and on clay soils closer to the Bay. A moisture test before coating catches this.
The third is hot tire pickup. Thin store-bought paints soften under warm tires, and when the car pulls out the coating lifts with the tread. A thick, fully cured system over a ground slab doesn't have this problem.
Every job is quoted in person after we measure and test the slab, and the estimate is free. These are the things that shape the quote:

Both finishes go over the same prep and use a clear topcoat. The difference is how the floor looks and how it handles daily life.
| Flake floor | Solid color floor | |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Speckled, granite-like blend | Clean, single color with a gloss finish |
| Hides dirt and wear | Very well — dust and scuffs blend in | Shows dust, tire marks and scratches more |
| Texture | Light natural texture from the flakes | Smooth unless anti-slip grit is added |
| Best for | Parking garages, workshops, busy family garages | Showroom-style garages, gyms, display spaces |
Most garages that see daily parking end up with a flake floor because it's forgiving. If you want a cleaner look, solid color with a touch of grit works well in a gym or display garage.
Yes, the floor has to be clear so it can be ground edge to edge. Cars, shelving and boxes need to come out, but wall-mounted cabinets and EV chargers can usually stay in place.
Flakes hide small surface marks well, but cracks are filled and ground flush first so they don't show through. Moving cracks can still reappear as a fine line over time, and we point those out at the estimate.
No. Hot tire pickup happens with thin paints and DIY kits that soften under warm rubber. A professional system over a ground slab is thick and fully cured, so tires don't pull it up.
Yes. Wrapping the coating a few inches up the stem wall gives the garage a finished edge and protects the bottom of the wall from water and scuffs. It's listed as an option on the written quote.
